When addressing people, one differentiates between "du", "Sie" and "ihr".
Die formelle Anrede "Sie" verwendet man bei Personen, die man nicht kennt.
The formal salutation "Sie" is used for people you do not know.
Fremde oder unbekannte Menschen spricht man mit "Sie" an.
Strangers or unfamiliar people are addressed as "Sie".
Auch Vorgesetzte, Lehrer oder Arbeitskollegen spricht man mit "Sie" an.
Supervisors, teachers or work colleagues are also referred to as "Sie".
